    Paleo-Future

I’m still stumbling upon some rather amazing websites. Check out this one that posts art from the past that depicted the then future (our present). There are really some spectacular works of imagination, hardly any of which came to pass. I particularly like the flying firemen, but my favourite has to be the cyclonic rocket seen on this page.

RE: So is DT in S5 or Not?

I’m seeing a lot of excitement about the recent announcement of Doctor Who series’ 4.5 and 5. It seems that a lot of fans have got their panties in a bunch about the Russell T. Davies, David Tennant and the BBC’s commitment to Doctor Who. I have to say that I am a bit perplexed by the whole thing. There seems to be a whole clutch of fandom that are jumping up and down about the fact that the 2009 series will comprise only of 3 feature length episodes. There could of course be many reasons for this

    Spider-pig, Spider-pig

I went to see The Simpsons Movie last night. It kind of does what it says on the tin. The movie is about the Simpsons. If I had lived in a vacuum for the last two decades then I would be able to accept without any further remark. Buuuut, I am aware that the Simpsons family were created in the 1980s and that since the series started in 1989 a whole wealth of back story and supporting cast has been introduced. These aspects are pretty much absent from this movie.

That doesn’t mean that it was bad. Lord no! It was funny, full of one liners and slapstick humour. It felt like a feature length episode of the series. A pretty good way to while away 87 or so minutes. I was just left feeling that opportunities were missed with regard to the other characters. Mr Burns, Krusty the Clown, Smithers (I don’t think he even uttered a line) and a host of other great members of the cast were just completely sidelined. In my view this was a disappointment. However, had this been a feature length episode of the series I probably wouldn’t have batted an eye.

As an aside, the thing that troubled me most was what happened to Spider Pig (AKA Plopper)? It was the first thought that troubled my fevered mind this morning. If you too were concerned about it, the above Wikipedia article goes some way to answering the question.

    Hello Again World

I did a silly thing and tried to keep up with the times. I attempted an upgrade to Drupal 6 without the aid of a safety net and was left with a very borked site (don’t do it). I left it in its borked state and never seemed to get around to fixing it. Last night I decided to just start from scratch with a clean install. Screw history, it is being written here baby! This is year zero! Yeah well you get the idea.

So much has happened this year so far that I would like to just draw a line under it and begin from scratch. So, this symbolic re-imagining of my website is part of that. I’m keeping the same name and adding a bunch of Doctor Who related stuff (feeds mainly). It is an attempt to keep focus. I’ll probably still veer way off topic but you know, this is my sandbox and I will play in it however I like.

I’m still doing thecontrast.net and am planning a major redesign of that site too. There is quite a lot happening with The Contrast this year.
