Mud: Yearbook | Music | PopMatters

This record disturbed me, I wanted to know when it was going to do something other than what was established during the first track. When it finally did, it was something so completely different and off the wall that the rest of the album paled into insignificance. Not a good album but I would recommend that you download the track Psycho. It is so wonderfully over the top that it is worth a listen. Below is an excerpt from this short take review with a link to full thing after it.

It is a sad day when you have to consider the possibility that you are old and no longer understand young people’s music. To this reviewer Mud’s Yearbook contains 13 songs that, with one exception, all sound identical. The album appears like it was created by the corpses of Real Big Fish with the ska influences ripped forcibly from their cold dead hands fronted by Avril Lavigne. It is Californian punk by checklist; repetitive riff… check, amusing self deprecating lyrics… check, brass section… check. I could go on.

Cedric Gervais: Space Miami Terrace – PopMatters Music Review

Cedric Gervais - Space Miami Terrace

This collection of dance tunes bemused me. I had some trouble getting in to it. After listening to what appeared to be two hours of a 4/4 drum beat augmented by samples I realised what it was about. The album was an historical record of an event, a means by which the listeners can relive if they were there or live vicariously through if they weren’t. Exerpt and link below…

Space Miami Terrace is one of those “you had to be there” recordings. It is a two CD, 22-track mixed compilation of dance tracks from the Yoshitoshi, Yo! and Shinichi labels. All tracks are mixed together by DJ Cedric Gervais. It stomps along at quite a pace. By listening to the album alone one can only imagine the heat that would be generated by the sweaty bodies dancing to these tunes.

    Russell T. Davies awarded OBE

The website formerly known as Outpost Gallifrey has announced that Russell T. Davies, creator of all that is holy and the writer of a couple of passable Doctor Who episodes has been awarded an OBE. Proof if ever proof were needed that the world has gone completely potty. Nothing against Mr Davies, I think he is great and it is well deserved, but the fact that the show runner of Doctor Who should get an OBE for his services to drama just sounds weird when you say it. Try saying John Nathan Turner OBE… see what I mean?

Russell T Davies , the lead writer and executive producer of Doctor Who and the man who has spearheaded the revival of the programme since 2003, has been created an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire – OBE – in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List. One of the highest civilian honours available to a British subject, the OBE is awarded by the Queen, on the advice of the Government, and has been given to Davies for his services to drama.

The Times quotes Davies as saying: “I’m delighted to accept, and I hope it does the whole industry a bit of good, for the writing of television drama to be recognised.” Davies is the second Doctor Who producer to have been accorded the honour – the late Verity Lambert was given an OBE in 2002.

According to the Press Association , the BBC has released a statement saying: “We are delighted for Russell – he is one of this country’s greatest writers and it is fantastic that his talent has been recognised in this way.”

The story is covered in many other news sources, including: The Independent , The Guardian , The Scotsman and BBC News . BBC News have also published a profile of Davies.[From Outpost Gallifrey: Doctor Who RSS News Feed]

    ‘Leaked’ Official Davros Photo

OK, so I was never so popular as when I posted the blurry spoilery picture of Davros with a watermark. It seems that the Internets have exploded with delight on the arrival of a seemingly official shot of the creator of the Daleks. I’ve posted a kind of small thumbnail below but be warned that should you decide to click on it the thumb will enlarge into something that will blow your mind. But don’t go there if you don’t want to be spoiled. Really…

OK here it is. Get it while it is hot, the BBC may hunt me down for this covert action :)

btw: there is also a picture of a redesigned dalek

    ‘Leaked’ Red Dalek Photo

Along with the Davros picture there comes a picture of a Red Dalek which is equally spoilerific so absolutely do not click on the itty bitty image below if you don’t want to see a very redesigned dalek with a paint job.

Get it while it is hot, the BBC may hunt me down for this covert action :)

I’m sorry, but as far as I know, the Red Dalek is nothing new, it comes from the old Dr Who series, “Daleks: Invasion of Earth 2150AD” and the film “Dr Who and the Daleks”.

The Red Dalek is only a Dalek Saucer Commander, at least in the Dalek hierarchy. Take a look http://www.historyvortex.org/DalekLeaders.html

Well, yes, nearly… A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing indeed.

    Punisher: War Zone Trailer

The Punisher:War ZoneIGN has posted the teaser trailer to the new Punisher movie, Punisher: War Zone. Yet again a actor has been cast. After Dolph Lundgren played the psychotic ex-marine in 1989 and Thomas Jane had a turn in 2004 it is time for Ray Stevenson to step up to the plate. The first Punisher movie was laughable and the last one was “meh”. In December 2008 Lionsgate bring forth a movie that seems to be (if the trailer is to be believed)  in Hollywood speak “high octane”. Loosely translated this means that it will be a lot like a Steven Seagal film, very loud and brash with a 1 dimensional performance from the leading man.

If you had been following the production of this film (why?) you will have seen the key players drop away like flies. Thomas Jane pulled out last year saying that he didn’t want to

spend months of my life sweating over a movie that I just don’t believe in. I’ve always loved the Marvel guys, and wish them well. Meanwhile, I’ll continue to search for a film that one day might stand with all those films that the fans have asked me to watch. (source AICN)

The synopsis of the movie reads like this:

In the December 5 comic book adaptation, ruthless vigilante-hero Frank Castle (Stevenson) wages his one-man war on the world of organized crime and sets his sights on overeager mob boss Billy Russoti. After Russoti is left horribly disfigured by Castle, he sets out for vengeance under his new alias: Jigsaw. With the “Punisher Task Force” hot on his trail and the FBI unable to take Jigsaw in, Frank must stand up to the formidable army that Jigsaw has recruited before more of his evil deeds go unpunished.

So I have to say that I am not terribly fired up about the film. However, if you are in the mood for plenty of guns and vengeance then the trailer shouts that this film will be for you. Anyway the trailer is below and if you want to see it in HD or any other formats there is a link after it.

    TURN LEFT – Promo Pics

TardisBlogtor Who has posted a bunch of promo pics for the episode 11 of the current series of Doctor Who. A few of them are a little spoilery so enter with caution. My particular favorite, for some reason, is the picture of the TARDIS that I have posted to the right. I kind of like the mystery of it.

Here are the promotional pictures for EPISODE 11 of DOCTOR WHO ‘SERIES 4′ entitled, TURN LEFT. Please note: some of these pics are spoilery if you know nothing at all about this episode. So if you want to remain completely free of info about this story then I suggest you move on. As always, click on them for bigger versions.Blogtor Who
