Doctor Who – Planet of the Dead

—[EDIT 1st April 2009 - It has now been confirmed that Planet of the Dead will air on BBC One at 18:45 (BST) on Saturday 11th April 2009. Bah to those of you that said it would be Sunday. I told you so. Only 10 days to wait now and the trailer is on tonight. It's just too exciting.]—

Doctor Who - Planet of the Dead

The BBC press office confirmed that Doctor Who – Planet of the Dead will air week 15, which bizarrely starts on Saturday April 11th and ends on Friday April 17th. The show briefly showed up on the schedule for Saturday 11th  but that has since disappeared. That date still seems likely though in fairness.

The press release, as expected gives little away about the show so spoilerphobes will not mind me posting it here below. Not long to wait now.

    New Album – Track Preview

    Wicked Cool

    Wicked Cool

The Contrast have not yet gone in to the studio to start recording their new album yet but one track will be coming our way sooner rather than later. Wicked Cool Records are living up to their name and releasing a demo version of one of the tracks from the new album. The track “Better Than They Seem” from the tentatively titled, forthcoming “Good Luck Charms and Fast Cars” will feature on a special Wicked Cool, South by Southwest (SXSW) sampler. It is a storming track featuring a much bigger sound than we have heard from The Contrast in the past. The new album is shaping up to be the best yet. I know I say that for every release, but am I ever wrong?

Unfortunately, The Contrast will not be playing at this year’s SXSW festival in Austin, Texas they will be far too busy working on the new album. However, once they are out of the studio we can expect them to start playing more shows in preparation for the promotion of their first proper release for Wicked Cool.

    The Contrast Begin New Album

    Wicked Cool

    Wicked Cool

On March 19th The Contrast begin recording their 6th original full length album (if you don’t count Perfect Disguise, which was a compilation album). The recording of the bands first original album for Little Steven’s Wicked Cool Records is to take place at Cottage Road Studios in Leeds. Once again, the mixing desk duties will be dealt with by long time producer and collaborator Andy Hawkins.

The recording of the album, which has a working title of “Good Luck Charms & Fast Cars” is likely to continue until the end of April. There is no news as yet as to when it will be released. However, the rumour is that there will be some new material sneaking its way out before the album see the light of day. I’ll keep you informed of any news as and when I get it.

    Ice Warriors… yeah right.

Kasterborous a usually entertaining Doctor Who related website is reporting a story on the Doctor who special that is currently being filmed. Apparently Peter O’Brien is filming scenes for the episode.

However, I’m disappointed to report that not only are they very quick to disrespect another fan site they are very keen to be convince us, based on purely circumstantial evidence, that a fan favourite alien is returning to the series. They say…

Referring to the Sydney Daily Telegraph, Den of Geek (whose hit rate took a tumble recently when they paid too much attention to Twitter) explain that O’Brien is playing a villain in a story set on Mars.

Surely any Doctor Who story set on Mars can only feature the return of The Ice Warriors?

Yep, that’s right the only Doctor Who villains that came from Mars were the Ice Warriors. They seem to be forgetting that there was also that small altercation in the Pyramids of Mars. The planet has in fact had numerous mentions in the show, probably because it is the nearest planet to Earth. Proximity might also explain why the planet Mars seems to feature so strongly in Science Fiction in general. Don’t get me wrong I’d love to see those scaly fellas back but let’s not jump to any conclusions too quickly.
