About

Just who do you think you are? - Well I think that I am becoming Marc A. Price the writer. Although, I have found that the art of becoming is a difficult process. I was once Marc Price (the “A.” was silent in those days) the musician. Then I became Marc Price the student. Then I became Marc A. Price the graduate.

What does that mean in English? - Really you have no soul! It means that I left school in 1984 with no qualifications or ambition. After a lifetime managing various HMV stores around the United Kingdom and the Isle of Man (shudder) I quit my job and went back to school at the Peterborough Regional College. After which I spent four years doing a degree in American Studies at the University of Sussex in Brighton, a year of this study was spent at the University of Texas, Austin… (yee haw). I graduated with honours July 2002. Graduated from the University of Sussex again, this time with a Masters Degree in Contemporary History in 2004. I am now vindicated. According to the pieces of paper in my possession I am currently officially clever. A bit like Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz (the book not the film).

Is that it? - I sometimes play guitar when I can muster the inclination and spend far too much time surfing the Internet. Since 2000 I have been the designer and maintainer of a website for The Contrast who are great. In 2005 I discovered WordPress and used it exclusively for all my websites. In 2007 (O fortune, fortune! all men call thee fickle) I moved over to Drupal for both this site and www.thecontrast.net (I moved back to WordPress for this site how fickle am I - Marc). This site currently uses Drupal 6 and I use Ecto to edit the site. I’m still learning how to use it but I think that it is more configurable and suited to my needs. This site and The Contrast.net are both hosted by A Small Orange.

Why do you call this site Bigger on the Inside when the url is marcaprice.com? Sure, I don’t know. Bigger on the Inside is reference to Doctor Who which is a TV show that I kind of like. I might buy a different url someday. When I find direction.

Are you nearly done yet? - The Reed Elsevier BuildingAlmost. I now work in Amsterdam for a science publisher in a Dark Tower (see right) where I initially (amongst other things) aided a certain medical journal in its quest to become one with the Internet. Now I work as an Application Manager on an Oracle based piece of software. I spend most of my free time writing music reviews (see here), absurdly short blog posts or (should I dare to go outside) dodging the sick of football shirt wearing, and mostly balding, English tourists. I live in Haarlem because there are fewer tourists there. For the record my Amazon Wish List is here
