It is always worthwhile listening to Mark Kermode reviewing movies. When that movie is by someone that the good doctor holds responsible for the decline of western cinema the review is going to be doubly entertaining.

“Hergé’s Adverntures of Tintin,” the announcer used to cry in a voice that would definitely have a good go at Voiceover man in a fight. What followed was a surreal and sometimes disconcerting experience. Tintin cartoons intruigued me as a child but there was always something about them that didn’t feel quite right. Perhaps it was the voices or the bizarre storyline, I still haven’t worked out. In actual fact I have stopped wondering about what it was that disturbed me, I was such an easily distracted child (like that has changed) but still…

Anyway Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson have been making a new and motion capture version with an all-star cast featuring Jamie Bell as Tintin, with Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis, Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, and Toby Jones heading up the rest of the cast. Edgar Wright, Joe Cornish, and Steven Moffat provide the screenplay. The first teaser trailer has appeared on the Interweb today, and it looks quite good despite the fact that it is in 3D. Elisabeth Sladen, who played Sarah Jane Smith in Doctor Who and two spin-off shows, has died, according to BBC News.

Her death is a huge loss to Doctor Who fans, and to fans of strong female adventure heroes everywhere. It’s hard to overstate how important Elisabeth Sladen was to Doctor Who, and how much she transformed the role of the companion on the show. In many ways, she paved the way for all of the show’s more intelligent, resourceful companions in the 21st Century.

So this week we get not one but two different trailers for the new series of Doctor Who. One from Aunty BEEB in the UK and the other from their cousins over the pond. Difficult to tell which one I like best. The US one seems to have more in it. Still… not long to wait now…

I totally missed that it was International Suit Up Day today. Of course no one is properly dressed unless they are suited and booted. It goes without saying that despite my (nearly) missing this international event I did in fact suit up for work, as I do every day.
