The release date for the new album by The Contrast “God of Malfunction” is fixed for April 13th and here at thecontrast.net I can exclusively reveal that there will be competition run by Little Steven’s Underground Garage to choose which song from the album will be the Coolest Song in the World on February 26th. The Contrast have a long history of securing the Coolest Song in the World title but this time around there are three possible candidates and the listener will get to vote for the one that they want to be the CSITW.
Excellent stuff, and in order to support this thecontrast.net will make the three songs available at 00:00 GMT on 18/02/2010. That’s like nearly today you know…
The songs in question are “Good Luck Charms”, “She’s a Disaster”, and “Coming Back to Life”. In order to vote you need to go to Fuzztopia.com, log in (or register if you are not already a member) and vote. There are already snippets of the songs on the site and there are full versions available on Wicked Cool’s MySpace page and as I say here on thecontrast.net we will be making the tunes available for streaming only a few hours.
‘God of Malfunction’ is set for release on April 13, 2010 on Wicked Cool. The coolest song chosen will be available for purchase on March 1st. Brrr, it’s getting exciting now…

0An utterly rubbish story about someone refraining from using Twitter. What is the world coming to?
Ricky Gervais has quit Twitter, branding the site “pointless” and the adults who use it “undignified”.
Leaving the microblogging site after less than a month of tweeting, he complained that celebrities used it for “showing off” and he did not need to make “new virtual friends”

Frankly, I’m more surprised that he didn’t have a heart attack. I think it would have killed me stone dead.

Exciting news has escaped from The Contrast’s camp. The new album that the band recorded recently in Leeds under the working title of “Good Luck Charms & Fast Cars” has been given an official title. The design of artwork for the album is underway and preliminary designs are expected next week (unlikely to be seen here for a while unfortunately).
However, as of this week the recording is officially titled “The God of Malfunction”. This is hardly surprising as that track is one of the stand-out tracks contained on the record. No news yet on when it will be released. I’ll keep you posted.

1Some sad n
ews came in on Google Reader today. Shaun Lyon, the big cheese behind the successful Outpost Gallifrey, Doctor Who Forum and Gallifreyone conventions has decided to close the news and forum sites down for ever on 31st July 2009. This decision is bound to send fandom into a spin as DWF was simply the best place to go for Doctor Who news, even if you did have to wade though countless crappy arguments sometimes in order to get to the good stuff.
So where do we go now? I’m open to suggestions. So many of the other sites are just either so noisy or boring. There are rumours of the moderators of DWF spinning off their own forum called Gallifrey Base. I’m sure more news will come out about that very soon.
This news reminds me of when my favourite pub closed when I was a youth. A great big group of people used to use the same pub, you always knew where to find people (this was in the days before mobile phones). When it closed things were never quite the same, in order to meet up with same group of people you had to visit several different pubs in town. People still mourn the loss of that pub, I recently found a Facebook group dedicated to that very purpose.
Still, ears to the ground, if you hear of a good Doctor Who forum let me know…
Outpost Gallifrey and the Doctor Who Forum, the most popular Doctor Who fan website on the Internet, will be closing for good as of July 31, 2009. The announcement was made in the Forum and the Doctor Who News Page on June 2 by owner/operator Shaun Lyon, whose statement about the closure is below. The closure of the site has been planned for a couple of months.

0Sometimes the law, while well meaning, can seem a little overpowering. There is a bill being discussed in Massachusetts that would make it illegal to photograph people over 60 or people with disabilities. So this could mean that what people do in the privacy of their own home could get them in a lot of trouble. I can see where this is coming from but sure common sense should be enough rather than a law.
I can’t see this getting favourable publicity.
If Mass. HB 1668 is passed, a person violating the new provisions of the law would receive a mandatory minimum sentence of at least ten years in prison or a fine of at least $10,000. This would include spouses photographing one another with “lascivious intent.”
1Well not really. This title is a bit mean for those of you that you found the post via Google Search. Lizo Mzimba, he from the BBC with close links to Doctor Who, bumped into Hannah Murray today and asked her the obvious question. For those not aware there has been a number of rumours going around that she has signed on the line as Doctor Who’s new assistant when Matt Smith takes over.
Anyway Lizo has this announcement to make about the encounter.
News hot off the press. Just spoke to the lovely Hannah Murray who says she definitely isn’t going to be Matt Smith’s assitant in Dr Who. (From http://twitter.com/lizo_mzimba/statuses/1621533863)
I’m proper sorry for those that had put money on her. I was not at all excited by the rumour as I’d personally like to see someone a bit older (Gillian Anderson perhaps – ha ha ha). So anyway perhaps we can put that particular rumour to bed and get on with the important task of make up new shit.
0It was really difficult not to post this image. It is a lazy article (both on here and the guardian) but still pretty funny.
I always imagined Iran to be kind of sandy, so big men covered in grass with guns should stand out like a Wookiee.
Does this also mean that some of those Australian Jedi that I’ve been hearing so much about are available as back up?
Or perhaps Tim needs to get this book:
